Mizaan Retreat
Friday–Sunday, August 7–9, 2026
Camp Bernie · Port Murray, NJ
The Mizaan Retreat seeks to bring Muslim families and individuals together for a weekend full of fun activities, learning and inspirational experiences in an outdoor camp setting.
One of the unique aspects of the Mizaan Retreat is the role of the Counselor. These Counselors are college aged or recent grads. Their role is to supervise their assigned group during part of the camp, guide them to their scheduled activities, bond with them, encourage social interaction within the group, and serve as a role model and resource for their questions.
Counseling at Mizaan is a delicate balance of developing a big-brother/big-sister relationship with campers while maintaining a certain degree of authority in order to stick to the greater camp schedule and safety. Counselors help cultivate an environment rooted in Islamic values of support, understanding, and guidance.
Commitment Requirement
Counselors must commit to the full duration of the program:
- Thursday, August 6 (afternoon) – Mandatory Counselor Workshop onsite at Camp Bernie
- Friday, August 7 – Retreat begins
- Saturday, August 8
- Sunday, August 9 (until 3:00 PM) – Retreat concludes
Full attendance from Thursday afternoon through Sunday at 3:00 PM is required to serve as a counselor.
The Mizaan Retreat is sponsored by the Muslim Life Program at Princeton University
